Dr. Clare Gill, interim executive associate dean for the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Texas A&M, made the announcement.

“We are pleased to have Dr. Yuan in this role and leading research programs that bring together scientists from many disciplines throughout Texas A&M and nationally,” Gill said.

Yuan has led multiple efforts of faculty at Texas A&M and several other universities in four, multi-million grants funded by the U.S. Department of Energy. He also led the establishment of the Synthetic and Systems Biology Innovation Hub at Texas A&M.

As Chair, Yuan will continue to lead the development of sustainable solutions for the future with cutting-edge systems and synthetic biology platforms.

Earlier this year, Brazos Beautiful awarded Yuan its Environmental Educator Award.

Yuan earned his doctorate in plant functional genomics from the University of Tennessee; his master’s degree in plant sciences from the University of Arizona; and bachelor’s degree in biology from Fudan University.
